A very successful event despite the far less than ideal weather we had for the Dice Run. Excellent turnout and support and a total of $6,200.00 was raised for the Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.).

Flag line and funeral escort for Linda McCoy 2nd Vice for ALA Unit 53 Winder 2/22/12
Thanks ya’ll for the support and on such short notice. Linda's motorcycle was in the escort and was rode by Michelle Casey (Sr Vice for AL Post 53 Winder) . Linda's son requested and was able to ride with me in the escort. It was an honor to do this for her, her family and our American Legion Family. A total of 20 bikes, 16 Legion Riders, 4 AmVet riders, and 2 civilian riders were present for this mission. Statham, Loganville, Duluth and Buford were represented. Thanks to all of you.
Post 111 Dallas
On Saturday, March 17th the American Legion Post 111 of Dallas and their Legion Riders hosted a motorcycle ride to raise funds to help the devastated Poole Elementary School. As you may recall Poole Elementary was hit hard by the tornado that came through the Paulding area on March 2nd.
When they American Legion heard what had happened to the school, they wanted to help some how. They asked the riders to assist them in putting a ride together. The American Legion Riders (ALR) were more than happy to help in this endeavor. There wasn't much time and they weren't sure how it was going to come together. They posted on Facebook, they printed flyers and told everyone to spread the word. Before you knew it, it happened. Bikers love to ride and when there is a good cause they come running. They had 85 motorcycles participate. The bike riders and their passengers gave generously of their time and money. Motorcyclist from all over the county came together for this cause. In a week and a half, the American Legion was able to pull this off! This goes to show you that when in need, the community is there to help.
The American Legion was able to raise $1200 on the ride. Hooters of Hiram, The Cove and Pirate Printing donated monies to bring the total raised to $1500. Then the American Legion wanted to bring the total up to $2500 so the gave another $1000.
Post Commander Grady Hayes presented the check to Angie Capo, Principal of Poole Elementary on Friday, March 30th.
The monies raised will go directly to the teachers that lost their classrooms. There were 6 teachers all together. We know that teachers spend a lot of their own money to decorate their classrooms, this money should help lessen the dent in their pockets.
