Update on Wall Escort
The Americas Best Value Inn, at exit 37 I-20, in Douglasville is where we will stay on May 21st. They are giving us a $40.00 rate, $45.00 with tax. Mention you are a Legion Rider.
The escort will start at the Georgia welcome center on the Eastbound side of I-20, mile marker 0. KSU from there will be 0800hours. There will be a GHP escort; all bikes must ride behind truck, per Dignity safety rules. The first stop will be at exit 114 Madison. The TA truck stop, at approx. 1000 to 1015. KSU from truck stop will be 1100 hours. The next stop will be at mile marker 187, the eastbound truck inspection station. Arrive at approx. 1200 hours. Will set up large flags and station bikes in front and behind truck for final escort to Fort Gordon. Will leave station as soon as we are setup. Our route to Fort Gordon will be I-20 to I-520 to Deans Bridge road exit. Will go west on US1 (Deans Bridge rd.) to Fort Gordon gate 5. Upon entering Post will proceed to Barton field, where wall will be setup.
For those riders who do not wish to go onto Ft. Gordon, can break off and go to American Legion Post 205, for lunch. Riders that accompany truck onto post will arrive at Post 205, after delivering truck to Barton field.
On the 29th of May, we will be escorting the wall off Fort Gordon, to the South Carolina state line. The escort will leave Ft. Gordon at approx. 1200 hours. Will depart thru gate 5, head east on US-1, to I-520. Then west on I-520 to I-20. East onI-20 to state line.
The Moving Vietnam Wall, will be coming to Ft. Gordon. for the Memorial weekend . The truck , carrying the wall will be coming into Georgia at 0630 hours on the 22 of May. Any riders who wish to escort the truck need to be at the Eastbound welcome center, at the Al/Ga line by 0715. KSU will be at 0800 hours. The route will travel I-20 across Georgia. There will be a stop in Madison, then on to the Eastbound Inspection Station, at mile 187, to assemble for the last leg to Ft. Gordon. Riders who wish to meet up at Madison, need to be there at 0945,at the truck stop on the south side of interstate. Those Riders who wish to escort the truck on the last leg, need to be at the Eastbound Inspection Station at 1200 hrs.
